Brow Aftercare & The Healing Process, Day by Day

Whether you've had nano brows, ombre powder brows or traditional microblading, the aftercare and healing process are very similar. Here's exactly what to expect after your semi permanent brow treatment — and how to look after your new brows so they heal beautifully.

The healing process: what happens when

Days 1–2: Fresh and defined

Your brows will look bold, crisp and darker than the final result — this is completely normal. There may be mild redness or tenderness around the area, which settles quickly. Keep the area completely dry and avoid touching it.

Days 3–5: Darkening and tightness

The pigment oxidises and the brows often look their darkest during this stage. The skin may feel tight or slightly itchy as light scabbing begins to form. Don't pick, scratch or rub — let any flaking come away naturally.

Days 5–10: Flaking and fading

Light flaking is the sign your skin is healing. As the flakes lift, the brows underneath can look patchy or much lighter — many clients worry the pigment has "disappeared." It hasn't: the colour is settling beneath the new skin and will re-emerge.

Days 10–14: The ghosting phase

Brows often appear soft and faint while the skin finishes regenerating over the pigment. This is the most misunderstood part of the microblading healing process — trust it, the colour returns.

Weeks 3–6: True colour develops

The pigment gradually re-surfaces and softens to around 30–40% lighter than the day-one intensity, giving that natural, healed look. Any unevenness at this stage is normal and is exactly what the top-up is for.

Weeks 6–8: Top-up appointment

Your included top-up perfects the shape, fills any areas where pigment healed lighter, and locks in your final result. Full healed results are visible shortly after.

Aftercare instructions

Following your aftercare properly is the single biggest factor in how well your brows heal and how long they last. For the best results:

Avoid getting the treatment area wet for 2 weeks after your treatment. Keep the area clean, and don't apply makeup close to the brows for the first few days. Avoid swimming, saunas, jacuzzis and products containing hydroxy acids. Don't exercise for 48 hours after your appointment, and avoid sun exposure to the area for as long as possible to prevent premature fading.

How long do semi permanent brows last?

Semi permanent makeup typically lasts 1–3 years depending on your skin type, age, lifestyle and how closely you follow the aftercare. A maintenance colour boost every 12–18 months keeps your brows looking fresh.
